Turkey prices aren’t getting any friendlier, so I’m rounding up every way to get one free this year. That includes grocery store spend-and-earn deals, cash-back apps and community giveaways.

Union Gospel Mission Thanksgiving Food Distribution (St. Paul)

Register online for a free ticket with a QR code, then drive through to get a turkey, potatoes and bags of groceries. Everyone who registered has to be in the car. Without a ticket you can only get leftovers in the first-come window late in the day. UGM is also serving a free Thanksgiving Day meal on Nov 26, 11:30am–1pm, but that one is a meal only.

Ibotta Free Turkey (any store)

Open the Ibotta app and finish your personalized Thanksgiving Turkey bonus (it tells you how many offers to redeem). That unlocks 100% cash back on any brand of turkey. It’s receipt-based, so it works at Cub, Hy-Vee, Target, wherever you shop. The cash-back cap is shown in the app.

BJ’s Wholesale Club

Members who spend $150+ in one transaction (in club, in the app or online) get a coupon for a free fresh or frozen Butterball turkey, worth up to $25. Available in BJ’s 21 Eastern states, while supplies last.

Giant Eagle & Market District

Spend $350 on qualifying purchases with your myPerks card, then pick up a free Giant Eagle frozen turkey. You can also donate it to a Feeding America food bank. Stores are in PA, OH, WV, MD and IN.

ShopRite

Spend $400 on one Price Plus card and you get a free Bowl & Basket frozen turkey (up to 21 lb), or money off a Butterball or Empire. Limit one per family. Runs in NJ, NY, PA, CT and DE (not Maryland).

Food Bank of Alaska Thanksgiving Blessing

Families in need go to their assigned site (based on ZIP code) and get a frozen turkey plus groceries for a full Thanksgiving meal.

CA Senate District 39 Turkey Giveaway (Spring Valley, CA)

One turkey per household, first come first served, at Monte Vista High School. You need to register online and upload a signed waiver, and someone from the household has to be there. Bring a cart, because they’re handing out other food too.

God’s Best Family Turkey Giveaway (Baltimore, MD)

Free frozen turkeys and a hot Thanksgiving meal at 1200 Nanticoke St. It’s open to everyone, but they ask you to sign up ahead of time on Eventbrite.

New Life Christian Center Turkey Giveaway (San Antonio, TX)

One free turkey per family while supplies last. You don’t need a voucher, but you do need to show up in person.

Pendas Law Firm Turkey Giveaway (Florida)

This annual giveaway hits four Florida cities: Miami (1400 SW 1st St), Fort Myers (4244 Evans Ave), Tampa (816 W MLK Blvd) and Orlando (625 E Colonial Dr).

ThriveSparks Foundation Turkey Giveaway (Miami Gardens, FL)

Registration is required, one per household. Bring your printed confirmation with your registration number. Each household gets a turkey and a case of water.

Hy-Vee

Last year, if you bought a Hormel Cure 81 boneless ham at any Hy-Vee, you got a free Honeysuckle White frozen turkey (about 10–14 lb). Hy-Vee hasn’t announced its 2026 deal yet.

Spend $125 in one purchase, not counting the turkey, and the turkey is free.

At the Royal Oak, Detroit and Clarkston Meijer Market stores only, spending $75 with mPerks got you a free frozen Meijer turkey the same day. Regular Meijer stores don’t run this one.

Quick Tips Before You Shop

Use the same loyalty card on every trip so your spending all counts toward one turkey. Spread it out over a few weeks and those $300–$400 thresholds start to feel doable. Before you count on any of these, call or check the app to make sure your store is taking part. For community giveaways, show up early and look for registration links. Most of them run out fast.
